The Command Staff of the Albany - Delaware Township Fire Department have 111 years of combined Fire Service experience and are dedicated to Public Service. All of our Command Staff have served or still serve in multiple public safety positions in their careers.
Chief Halsema has worked in the fire service for 18 years. Chief Halsema started with the Albany Fire Department in July of 2013 and soon took over as the departments Training Officer. Chief Halsema has worked as a Lieutenant and a Captain with the Albany Fire Department while continuing as Training Officer until he was elected as Fire Chief in January of 2020.
Chief Halsema is a full-time police officer, is a member of the Delaware County EMS VIPER Hazmat Team, a member of the Delaware County Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security, Indiana District 6 Emergency Response Task Force Secretary/Treasurer for the Delaware County Fire Chief's Association. Chief Halsema has also worked in 911 Emergency Communications.
Assistant Chief Kimmerling has been in the fire service and with the Albany Fire Department for 27 years. Assistant Chief Kimmerling has served as the Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, and Firefighter with his years of service. Assistant Chief Kimmerling assists with day-to-day operations and is in charge of our Emergency Medical Services.
Assistant Chief Kimmerling is a full-time Paramedic with Henry County EMS and instructs our departments CPR Certifications, Medical Training Certifications as a Primary Instructor through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security EMS Training Division.
Captain Cory Kissick was appointed as the departments Training Officer in January of 2021. Captain Kissick has served as a Firefigher and Lieutenant before his promotion to Captain.
Captain Kissick is the Deputy Director at the Delaware County Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security. Captain Kissick is also a Reserve Police Officer, a member of the Delaware County EMS VIPER Hazmat Team, and a member of the Indiana District 6 Emergency Response Task Force. Captain Kissick has followed in several generations of his family in the fire service.
Captain Smith has been a dedicated member of the Albany - Delaware Township Fire Department for over 30 years. Captain Smith was promoted to his position of Captain in January of 2021. Captain Smith is the departments Apparatus and Station Maintenance Officer. He also assists with pump operations and water operations trainings.
Captain Smith also has served with Albany EMS prior to their closing as a driver and maintenance officer. Brad has many certifications and his son has followed in his footsteps working for a neighboring department.
Lieutenant McGraw has been in the fire service since 2010 and has spent his 11 years with the Albany - Delaware Township Fire Department. Lieutenant McGraw is the departments treasurer and oversee's all purchases coming into the department.
Lieutenant Hughes has been in the fire service for 15 years. Lieutenant Hughes was promoted to his position in March of 2021 and is the departments Inventory Control Officer.
Lieutenant Hughes has served previously on the Swayzee Fire Department, he has worked as a Corrections Officer, worked in EMS, and is currently a Reserve Police Officer in Albany.
